Well everyone, we've reached the official end of the Briar Rose Vintage Knit-along! It's been a wonderful experience leading you all through it. I learned some things about my own knitting and my knitting processes along the way. I hope I've helped you gain confidence in your own knitting skills and your ability to resize a sweater pattern, and hope you'll want to seek out more vintage knitting patterns in the ... Read more »

Briar Rose Vintage KAL: Seaming
Hey knit-alongers! We've reached the last instructional post! My last topic before the official end date tomorrow is about seaming. Call it seaming, call it sewing up, call it a pain in the butt. Unless you're knitting a completely seamless sweater, you're going to have to face this step. Once you've blocked your Briar Rose pieces, you'll have a nice little pile of flat pieces of knitting that look an awful lot ... Read more »
Briar Rose Vintage KAL: Blocking your sweater
Hi everyone! Can you believe we're almost officially done with the knit-along?? It was so interesting reading everyone's thoughts about A Stitch in Time Vol. 2 and your next knitting projects. And I know there are several of you out there who aren't knitters yet but I can tell you're leaning in that direction... c'mon! You know you want to learn! :) Today is my second-to-last instructional post for the knit-along. I ... Read more »
Briar Rose Vintage KAL: A few more tips
I've been following our Flickr group discussions carefully, and there are 3 topics I thought would be important for me to touch on here for everyone to read. Working decreases on purl rows I may have touched on this elsewhere, but I wanted to mention it here too. In the pattern as written, it tells you to start off the armhole decreases as follows: k2tog each end of the next 4 rows Either this is an editing mistake, ... Read more »
Briar Rose Vintage KAL: Two ways to knit the collar
Of course while Blogger was having problems was exactly when I wanted to post my next knit-along post! Anyway, we’ve reached the collar. There are two ways to approach it, and it’s up to you which method you choose. Knitting the collar 1) You can knit the collar as written (or with slight size modifications for those of you who resized your pattern) and sew it to the neckline. 2) You can pick up stitches along the ... Briar Rose Vintage KAL: Shoulder shaping
(Update: This post was eaten during the Blogger outage. I waited patiently starting yesterday morning when they said "Blogger was back" and said they were restoring the posts that were "temporarily removed" from Wednesday and Thursday. 24 hours later my post isn't back and as of this morning they say "almost all" posts have been restored and now they're working on comments. Gee, thanks! Fortunately my mom had a copy of ... Read more »
Briar Rose Vintage KAL: Will post next week
I know I owe you all a knit-along post! Bad leader! Unfortunately it's not going to happen this week. I leave tomorrow for New Mexico for my emergency weekend trip. I will be seeing my family and will hopefully get to see my grandmother for what will most likely be one last time. Things have declined pretty quickly with her health. Does knitting relax you in stressful situations? It can go either way for me. ... Read more »
Briar Rose Vintage KAL: A couple of tips
Hey knit-alongers! How are you doing? It's been really fun seeing progress photos in the Flickr group! I admit, my Briar Rose is woefully still behind! That's what I get for setting too many deadlines for myself before VLV. But I can just start to see the finish line with my current vintage knit (that I have to finish before we leave, or else I need to rethink two outfits, yikes), so that means I'll be getting back to ... Briar Rose Vintage KAL: Knitted sleeve caps
How is the knitting going for everyone in the knit-along? I admit I haven't touched my Briar Rose in awhile, but only because I have a (personally set) tighter deadline for another knit so I'm trying to bang out some work on that one before I go back to Briar Rose. I have about 6" of the body done, and I'm working in the round. Today, a few days early, I'm going to talk about sleeve caps. I bet going into this you had ... Read more »
Briar Rose Vintage KAL: Thoughts on reading the pattern
Happy Friday! I promised a post that I'm not sure very many of you actually need, but I thought it would be helpful just in case (and since I know how online knit-alongs go, it might prove useful for someone in the future who plans to knit Briar Rose). I'm going to talk a little bit about reading our knitting pattern. I know sometimes for newer knitters, when you look at a knitting pattern it might as well be ... Read more »
Briar Rose Vintage KAL: Knit-along cast on!
Thanks so much everyone for the kind words about our anniversary! ♥ Know what today is? That's right, those of you who are knit-alongers know: March 1st, our cast on day for the Briar Rose Vintage Knit-Along! Today was the first day since fall that I had to break out my sunglasses again when I left for work this morning, so that tells me spring really is just around the corner. That makes it the perfect day to cast on ... Read more »
Briar Rose Vintage KAL: Resizing the knitting pattern, Part 2
Today is part two of resizing in our knit-along. We're now going to learn how to resize our vintage knitting pattern to our own size. This is the long post. Don't worry if you're not ready to sit down and do this! I know some of you are still swatching or waiting to get yarn. :) Actually this post is so big I admit a certain bit of trepidation posting it. lol I just know I've forgotten something, even though I've ...
