Meet me in Washington, D.C. over the holidays!

I couldn’t resist a title riffing on one of my favorite old movies, Meet Me in St. Louis. But it’s true! If you’re in the Washington, D.C. area over the holidays, let’s meet!

I’m very tickled to announce I’ll be at Three Little Birds Sewing Co. in Hyattsville, Maryland (suburban D.C.) for a retro holiday Meet & Greet on Friday, December 22nd, from 7-9pm. Cocktails, festive music, and sewing chatter. Come ask me questions about vintage sewing (or knitting!), say hi, hang out, and have fun! This is my first time doing something like this so I’m excited and I’ll admit, a bit nervous! 🙂

Festive attire encouraged… and you know that means I’m already working on a new outfit just for the occasion!

I think it should be a lot of fun! If you have any questions, feel free to email me or DM me on Instagram.

Event details below:

  • Date: Friday, December 22, 2017
  • Time: 7-9pm
  • Location: Three Little Birds Sewing Co., 5132 Baltimore Ave, Studio B, Hyattsville, MD 20781.  Entrance is on Gallatin Street.
  • Festive attire encouraged. Free!

Now, since I have you here… you want to know more about that blouse, riiiight?

Well, that was my Christmas blouse last year, but it never made it to the blog until now! In fact, it was an accident that I paired it with my felt circle skirt from a couple of years ago—I wasn’t planning on it, and thought it might look a bit kooky, but when I tried it on I loved them together! One of those novelty outfit “go big or go home” moments, for sure.

The blouse is another version of a vintage pattern I’ve now sewn several times. I think the last one I shared was my birdie blouse, but it’s also been made up for Halloween, too, Butterick 6223 from the 1950s.

I was on a real cigarette pants and blouses kick last year, so that’s why I did a Christmas blouse. I can’t remember how I found this fabric… pretty sure I literally typed “candy cane fabric” into Etsy. Isn’t it great though? Candy canes with cranberry and popcorn garlands, the stuff of kitschy Christmas dreams.

didn’t notice Pia photobombing in the background until now!

Did you catch I did the buttonholes on the wrong side? On occasion I forget and do that, not that it matters.

The pattern has the best little ‘rising’ collar, doesn’t it? I think it’s my favorite thing about it!

The only thing I need to remember about this pattern is that I adore the 3/4 kimono sleeves, but I also have a tendency to knit cardigan sleeves that are a weeee bit too tight. And so it’s  near impossible to pull these sleeves down when I put a cardigan on top, which makes me crazy! So I really, really need to remember to knit myself a couple of 50s style boleros with roomy sleeves so that’s not an issue. Someday!

I enjoyed this outfit so much!

I hope if you’re in the Washington, D.C. area you’ll come join us at Three Little Birds Sewing Co. on Friday evening, December 22nd.

I’ll be there with bells on! Hope to see you there, too.
